The benefits

Clearly for a company to "donate" an individual's time to an educational event, such as a Challenge of Management Conference, means that there must be some definite benefits for the company and for that person in particular.

Learning is a two-way process.

Being an adviser involves helping a group of students to build a team (including the adviser). The team works on a variety of "hands-on" activities, such as; a business simulation, a marketing, design and manufacturing exercise, negotiation exercises, developing a simple business plan and associated presentation etc.

Through these exercises and activities we are able to nurture and develop markedly the key managerial skills of all those involved - Students and Advisers alike;e.g.

The development and subsequent demonstration of such skills are difficult to achieve in a standard "school situation". Events such as those managed by CTP provide an effective means to achieve these aims by putting the students into a work-place style environment.

Being an adviser is clearly rewarding. The majority of advisers who have come along to work with the students at one of our events have come back in succeeding years, not only because of what they learn from the experience, but also because they enjoy it.

Almost without exception advisers have said how much they have gained with respect to their key managerial skills and personal development in general. They have clearly learnt from working with a group of young people, and have identified and hopefully rectified some shortcomings in their own development.

Indeed, many companies have recognised the potential added value and use our events as part of their employee development programmes, for which we will provide suitable recognition of an individual's achievements, if required.

Summing up, being an adviser at a CTP-managed event benefits the individual by sharpening up management skills and enhancing personal development. The adviser's company benefits through improved performance achieved at minimal cost.
